Little Musos (a branch of FAB Music) originated in 2005 when Felicity Bayliss (née Baker) first began teaching music lessons and wanted a music class for babies and toddlers. The FAB part comes from her name's initials, and hope that for all who come through her studio to have a fabulous experience and be fab musicians and performers themselves! Of course, having a fab time full of fun too!
Mini Musos is based on the Suzuki Early Childhood Education Programme founded by Dorothy Jones of Canada, which came in to being after her close work with Dr. Shinichi Suzuki of Japan. This class is for the babies and toddlers, because "We are born with a natural ability to learn" and "There is no telling to what heights children can attain if we educate them properly right after birth." (Dr. Suzuki - Nurtured By Love).
Bigger Musos was birthed out of Felicity's realisation of the need for a pre-instrumental programme - before young children start formal music lessons. She developed this programme which builds on the songs and skills learnt at Mini Musos. It is the perfect bridging course for graduating Mini Musos!
Instrumental Musos was launched when Felicity had Bigger Musos wanting to start playing their own instrument. Cello Musos has been a favourite of Bigger Musos graduates, and we hope to offer more Piano Musos and Violin Musos Classes in the future! The children who have participated in an Instrumental Musos Class have learnt amazing beginner skills on their instruments before graduating to individual lessons. These children have also formed great bonds with their peers and continue to talk about these classes with great repour and enjoyment!
Cello Lessons are tailored to each student's need. Felicity is Suzuki-trained, and holds her Level 2 NZ Suzuki Institute Certificate. She works with children on instruments as young as 3 years, and also loves teaching mature students, notably beyond 60 years. The Suzuki Method is her favourite way to teach and is based on the Mother Tongue Approach - so as we learn language, so we learn music.
A mother of two little girls, Felicity has a close connection to each child she teaches and believes that every child deserves a chance to explore their own musical voice.
